Zamfara Govts Gears Up To Meet 2015 MDGs Target
Alhaji Sani Musa, the Special Adviser on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Zamfara Governor, said the state government spent N1.2 billion on project aimed at attaining the MDGs targets by 2015.
Musa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Gusau that the projects had direct relevance on the various communities where they were executed.
He said that some of projects included the construction of semi-urban water works at Zurmi, Bungudu and Mafara, while 10 bore-holes were drilled in each of the 14 local government areas of the state.
The special adviser said that the idea of providing potable water for rural and semi-urban communities was aimed at improving health condition of the people and to reduce their vulnerability to water-borne diseases.
He said that about N800 million was spent on the projects, which he said had reached about 90 per cent completion.
Musa said that in an effort to improve facilities at the state’s tertiary institutions, the government awarded contract for the construction of hostel accommodation and lecture auditorium in some schools.at
The institutions are the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Mafara, the School of Nursing, Gusau, and the School of Health Technology in Tsafe, all in Zamfara.
He said that the projects were awarded at a total cost of about N400 million, and would be completed and inaugurated in August.
Musa said that the government had planned to double its spending towards the attainment of the MDGs because it was conscious of the fact Zamfara was a typical rural state that required urgent government attention
He urged the people to support the government in ensuring that its programmes were actualised. (NAN)
