Volleyball: Nigeria Hires Foreign Coach
In a bid to take the game of volleyball in the country to a greater height and boost grassroots development efforts, Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has engaged the services of a Brazilian Augusto Sabatini for a period of six months. The coach is expected to resume work officially later this month.
NVBF President Engr. HabuGumel, who disclosed this, said the Brazilian coach is coming courtesy of support of and collaboration between the volleyball world governing body (FIVB) and NVBF, and would be for a six months period in the first instance.
According to him, the expatriate volleyball tactician coach would within the period his engagement provide technical support to his Nigerian counterparts as well drive a eighteen week-long camping and development programme involving the senior women and men national’s team as well youth team.
The NVBF President said the well –structured programme which expected to starts next month will see the women in camp for six weeks to be followed by the Youth team who also camp for the same time period prelude to the African Youth Club Championship to be hosted by Nigeria in October.
Sabatini and other national team coaches he said will also take the senior national team through a six week camp into the sports festival slated for Lagos.
“We intend to give everybody opportunity to benefit from this technical support we are getting from FIVB. At the end of the coach’s tenure, it is our hope that the players and the sport generally would have benefited while the coaches take in a few tips and how best drive the sport”, stated the NBVF boss.
