Controversy Trails Corps Member’s Death
Controversy has continued to trail the death of a corps lawyer, Mr Chibege Danjuma Lawi, who was said to have died in a swimming pool at Valencia Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja on April 13, 2012, at about 5pm.
A letter of petition made available to LEADERSHIP and signed by a lawyer, D. D. Azura, said that Barrister Danjuma Lawi had graduated from the Nigeria Law School and was doing his National Youth Service in a law firm in Abuja, when he suddenly died in suspicious circumstances. Prior to his death, he was living with one Engr. James Musa in Abuja.
According to Barister D .D. Azura: “Our client’s son on April 13, 2012, at about 5pm was invited by his friend Mr. Mumsi Tifasi for swimming at Valencia Hotel, Wuse 2 Abuja.
“After about an hour, his friend Mr. Tifasi called on phone to announce that he was dead. The information was that, at the swimming pool, he started shivering in the water and the life guard by the pool side of the hotel was alerted and he was rushed to Wuse General Hospital, where he eventually gave up the ghost.
“The relatives of our client in Abuja went to the hospital and moved the corpse to the National Hospital Abuja. Our client was informed but was asked to leave Yola, where he resides, for Abuja, as they were going to move the corpse for Burial in Adamawa.”
“In an effort to move the corpse to Adamawa, it was discovered that there was no death certificate as the Wuse General Hospital stated it was corpse that was purportedly deposited from Valencia Hotel. This made it impossible for the corpse to be transported by air but by road,” and raised suspicion of foul play.
