Rains Wreak Havoc In Lagos, Ogun

Torrential rainfall with its attendant whirlwind yesterday wreaked havoc in many parts of Lagos and Ogun States leaving many of the residents in traffic congestions that made it impossible for them to get to their offices and business locations.
LEADERSHIP findings showed that the rains which began at 2am continued till sunrise compelling many of the residents to remain indoors, while those who braved the situation to start the day’s activity got stranded at bus stops and had no alternative than to trek the long distances to their destinations.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the rainstorm pulled down an electric pole in Adekunle Fajuyi area of Ikeja which resulted in the electrocution of a man whose identity could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this story.
At 2 Community Street, Iyana –Oworo area of the state, the rainstorm was said to have brought down a one-storey building which resulted in the death of a man identified as Kabiru while several others were seriously wounded.
At Alagbole –Akute area it was a harrowing experience for the residents, as the flooding divided the two states at Yakoyo area leaving commuters unable to cross the deep flood that submerged both Oando petrol station and NIPCO petrol stations.
A resident told our correspondent that, “The area boys are the ones ferrying people across the water. You have to pay them N100 before. Two people that tried to cross the flood were almost drenched. Even if one were tall, the way the water was flowing it could carry someone”. 
Meanwhile, no fewer than 300 Lagos-bound train passengers were stranded in Abeokuta yesterday following an early morning down pour which washed away the rail track at Lafenwa.
