NDLEA Arrests Soldier,151 Suspects In Benin


The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said in Benin on Monday that it has arrested 151 suspected drug traffickers, including a soldier between January and June this year.
The NDLEA Commandant in the state, Mr Sani Ibrahim Sani, said at a news conference that the agency had also seized banned drugs and a farm used for the cultivation of Indian hemp estimated at five billion naira.
He said the soldier was serving at the Nigeria Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Auchi, in Edo.
According to him, the army private was arrested at Uzebba village in Owan-West Local Government Area of the state with substantial quantity of cannabis in his boot.
``Right now, as I am talking to you, we are processing his remand in prison custody,’’ he said.
The commandant said that 64 persons involved in the use of hard drugs were undergoing counselling and rehabilitation in the agency's centre.
Sani said the drugs seized included 19, 612.4 kg of cannabis sativa, 12.5 grams of cocaine, 6.5 grams of heroine and a 67 hectare Indian hemp farm.
He said the seizures were made across the 18 local government areas of the state and that the command had successfully prosecuted 23 people, impounded 17 cars and three motorcycles during the period.
