The Plateau Government has said that its withdrawal of commercial motorcycles from intra city transportation was not targeted at any group in the state.
It also stated that the measure was not a surprise move.
Yiljap Abraham, the state Commissioner for Information, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos that the withdrawal followed a law made for that purpose by the state three years ago.
Speaking at a familiarization visit to NAN, Jos Zonal Office, the commissioner said that such laws were usually made for peace and order in the society.
He said that people ought to have been prepared, pointing out that the issue of being trapped did not arise.
Abraham said that the development was also a call on investors in the transport sector to take advantage and invest in the intra city transportation sector of the state.
“Plateau government has also provided 500 additional taxi cabs and 300 tricycles to be rolled in soon.
“Plateau government does not want people to suffer, those who want to assist with city transportation can come in, the atmosphere is prepared.”
NAN reports that some residents of suburbs of Jos metropolis had called for a reversal of the withdrawal of commercial motorcycles from the transport system because it had forced them to trek long distance to board taxi cabs.
