Terrorists devise new killing strategy, slit victim’s throat
IN a move apparently targeted at attracting the least
resistance from security operatives, suspected terrorists in Borno
State now slit the throats of their victims instead of shooting them.
This came to the fore on Sunday night as suspected terrorists attacked the residence of a 32-year-old trader in Kofa Biy, Abaganaram ward of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State and slit his throat .
The attack occurred despite an appeal from the Borno Elders’ Forum (BOEF) last Thursday’s to terrorists to lay down their arms and dialogue with the Federal Government.
Police sources revealed that the resort of the terrorists to the slitting of their victims’ throats in the metropolis was a deliberate way of preventing members of the Joint Task Force (JTF), police and other neighbours from being alerted by gunshots.
An eyewitness and resident of Kofa Biyu, said that he did not hear gunshots from either the JTF or the suspected terrorists until his neighbours told him that the trader was killed last night by slitting his throat , instead of being shot as the usual practice.
He said: “Last night we slept with two of our eyes closed, because there were no sporadic gunshots throughout that night. But one of our neighbours was silently killed without hearing any gunshot fired at his residence or any other person.”
Confirming the incident yesterday in Maiduguri, the spokesman of Borno State police command, Gideon Jibrin said that there was an attack at the residence of a trader in Abaganaram ward, in Maiduguri.
But he said that the police Area Commander was yet to send his report to the headquarters for investigations and appropriate action on the alleged killing.
He said no arrest had been made yet and urged residents to cooperate with the police and JTF by providing useful information on the hideouts and modus operandi of terrorists that live in the
communities in Maiduguri.
