PDP wants Kwara Assembly re-run shifted

THE Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has canvassed a shift in the date for the House of Assembly polls in respect of Oloje and Alanamu wards of Ilorin-West constituency of the state.
According to PDP yesterday in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani and the Secretary, Yemi Afolayan, the June 30, 2012 fixed for the repeat election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has allegedly undermined the June 25 date fixed for a legal proceeding in the same matter at the Court of Appeal.
Since the election in April 2011, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayelabegan, had challenged in courts the victory of the PDP candidate in the poll, Alhaji Abdulfatai Salman.
The PDP alleged that it had filed an application for injunction against Ayelabegan “of which INEC is the third Respondent” and of which hearing on it had been fixed for June 25 this year at the Court of Appeal Ilorin Division.
The INEC spokesman in the state, Jacob Ayanda, said the date was fixed in order to prevent any constitutional lapses of conducting a repeat election within 90 days.
