Airport remodelling will soon be completed – Oduah
The Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, said on Monday in Abuja that
the ongoing remodelling of the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja, would be completed soon.
Oduah told the News Agency of Nigeria that there was no problem with the airport but needed improvement.
The minister spoke through Mr. Joe Obi, her Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations.
The minister denied media reports that the runway at the airport had problems.
“The ongoing renovation project at the airport will soon finish and it
will be commissioned alongside other airports where works have been
completed.
“There is no problem with the runway again; we repaired the runway since
Saturday, June 9, and since then, flight operations have been going on
steadily at the airport,” she said.
Oduah said some of the faulty runway lights that made some flights to be
diverted to other airports for landing on June 8, had since been
replaced.
In another development, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, the spokesperson of
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria also rejected a report that a BA
flight over shot the runway on June 16.
“BA exceeded the turning link; it did not overshoot the runway; the next
link had to be cleared for the BA flight to turn and come back to the
parking bay.
“It was not a major issue as it was presented,” Yakubu said.
