Abia gives police 30 patrol vans
Handing over the vehicles to the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, in Umuahia, Orji said the gesture would help to improve police surveillance in the state.
He explained that the vehicles, equipped with communication gadgets, “were purchased to help in sustaining the prevailing security in the state. ’’
He described the gesture as a demonstration of his commitment ‘’to continue to adequately equip and empower the police to perform. ’’
Orji said the police had the capacity to discharge their statutory function of protecting lives and property ‘’with proper equipment and information. ’’
The governor, who recalled the security challenges that confronted the state during his first tenure, said that he would do anything possible to sustain the prevailing peace.
He appealed to the IGP to help the state in tackling the menace of pipeline vandalism and existence of illegal refineries in oil-bearing communities of Ukwa.
In his remarks, the Abubakar noted that ‘’ Abia is now one of the safest states in the south east,’’ pointing out that ‘’kidnapping is now a thing of the past in the state. ’’
He said that the police authorities were determined to positively change the security situation in the country.
Abubakar appealed to the command to ensure that the vehicles were properly deployed for the purpose for which they were provided to ensure sustenance of security in the state.
