A 24-hour curfew has been re-imposed in all 23 local government areas of Kaduna State following renewed violence in the metropolis and some other parts of the state. Similarly, the Yobe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Damaturu, following series of explosions and gunfights in the city on Monday night. The 24-hour curfew in had only been relaxed on Monday, a day after violence broke out in the state following bomb attacks on Five churches located in Kaduna and Zaria.
Trouble started again in Kaduna when some persons in Tudun Wada, Rigasa, Ungwar Muazu and Bakin Ruwa along the busy Nnamdi Azikiwe road barricaded the road and began killing motorists.
A source told LEADERSHIP that “I saw corpses littered all over the road, as many were trapped and killed.”
A statement by the spokesman of the Kaduna state government, Reuben Buhari read: “In view of certain new security challenges that came up today, and based on the need for the state government to continue with its responsibility of safeguarding the lives and properties of it citizens, the state government is hereby re- imposing a 24 hours curfew in all parts of the state.
“This curfew covers all the 23 LGs of d state. As unpalatable as this decision is the state government is doing it in the best interest of d state.  Consequently, everybody is strongly advised to go back home now, while security agencies continue with the task of ensuring total peace in the state.”
The Yobe government announced the curfew in a statement in Damaturu on Tuesday, signed by Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information.
It directed members of the public to stay at home as the Joint Task Force and other security agencies worked toward total restoration of law and order.
The statement stated that movements in Potiskum would be restricted from 6p.m to 6.00a.m. Till further notice, adding that movement in other towns would only be allowed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
It called on members of the public to cooperate with the government and various security agencies to ensure that normalcy returned to the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many displaced residents of Pawari, Bindiri and Nayinawa wards in Damaturu are now taking refuge in other parts of the metropolis.
Meanwhile, the streets of Damaturu remained deserted as the people remained indoors for safety.
NAN recalls that the Federal Government imposed a state of emergency on Damaturu and four other local government areas in 2011 when a similar attack rocked the state.
